Type 316 stainless steel tube is the second most common stainless steel after Type 304. SS DIN 1.4401 / 1.4436 rectangular welded pipe, ASTM A312 TP316 pipe, Type 316 rectangular pipe, and Type 316 pipe typically contain 16% chromium and 10% nickel, with molybdenum additions typically ranging from 2% to 3%. Type 316 stainless steel pipe, TP 316 SS ERW pipe, Type 316 pipe, and AMS 5573 pipe are made from 70% to 90% recycled content and are fully recyclable at the end of their lifecycle.
Properties of Type 316 Steel
Type 316 steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with a molybdenum content between 2% and 3%. The addition of molybdenum enhances corrosion resistance, improves pitting resistance in chloride solutions, and increases strength at elevated temperatures.
Type 316 stainless steel is particularly effective in acidic environments. This grade of steel effectively resists corrosion from sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic, and tartaric acids, as well as acid sulfates and alkaline chlorides.
